Services
Line Haul
The Border Express network of line haul, warehouse, terminal and distribution facilities,
extends right across Australia.
Distribution and Warehousing
Independent and professionally managed freight terminals in Adelaide, Albury,
Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney; together with strategic alliances in Darwin, Hobart,
Wagga Wagga and other regional centres provides conprehensive
metropolitan, intercapital and regional distribution capabilities.
Each terminal provides highly organised warehousing and fleet distribution
services. Melbourne is currently serviced with two terminals, effectively
allowing pickup and delivery in the west from Laverton, and in the east from
Clayton.
Sydney operations are in Milperra with recently
expanded facilities and the introduction of a satellite vehicle tracking system
to assist coordination of pickup and delivery. Real time Global Positioning
System information regarding the current status and position of vehicles and
the ability to visually coordinate pickup and deliveries via computer screens,
enhances Border Express' quick response capability - just one example of
the latest transport industry technology we now have in use.
Specialised Transport Equipment
Our strategic planning is based on the developing needs of our customers.
Strong customer relationships allow us to initiate and manage change as
partners with common objectives. Each alliance produces vital competitive
advantages through customised transport equipment and improved freight
systems. To fullfil our task of delivering large quantities of freight daily,
on time and in sound condition. We strive to use the most
advanced equipment available.
For example, working in a consortium partnership with Norske Skog newsprint
mill Albury, paper rolls are loaded automatically by conveyors directly into
van trailers with 'skate' floors. The system eliminates manual handling, pallet
packaging, takes just minutes and is entirely handled by our driver. After
delivery into a metropolitan newspaper, the vans are reloaded through a
retractable roof with bulk wastepaper for the return trip to Albury. The trailers
are unhitched and emptied using a tipping platform, instantly ready for
reloading with paper rolls again.
Information Technology
Constantly striving to provide the highest level of customer service, significant
ongoing investments are being made in communication and information
technology. Internet 'Proof of Delivery' customer access capability, fully
integrated national telephone systems and the latest transport software
providing customers with 'Key Performance Indicators', are just a few
examples. Border Express will continue to implement new technologies in
these areas as they become available.
